Waves of Mentawai
The playground area offers access to over 25 distinct waves, making it one of the most consistent surf spots globally. Here, surfers can find waves suitable for nearly every combination of swell, tide, and wind conditions. Below, we highlight the ones nearest to us.
E-Bay
A fast, powerful left-hander with barreling sections, offering multiple sections depending on tide and swell.
Level: Intermediate – Advanced
Distance: Right at the front of the surfcamp
Pitstop
A fun right-hander, it starts on reef and finish on sand. It features the occasional barrel on the take off, followed by smooth walls, making it easy to surf on the shoulder and suitable for varius level
Level: beginner on small days, intermediate and advanced with more swell
Distance: 3 minuts by boat – 10 minuts walking
Beng Beng
One of the most consisten left in Mentawai. It is a long, fun wave, that offers playful sections with long walls, perfect to improve your turns or even to practise take off on the shoulder.
Level: Any, but for beginners is better to go on high tide and small swell
Distance: 5 minutes by boat / 20 to 25 minuts walking
Nipussi
A very consistents right point-breake, it always works on small days. The wave has many faces depending on the swell and wind, usually offers a good combination on fast sections and smooth open face for turns.
Level: beginner on small days, but carefull with the reef. Intermediate and advanced at any day.
Distance: 35 min walk – 15 min by boat
Bankvault
A havy-powerful right hander with deep barrels that brakes over a shallow reef. It holds it’s shape on bigger swell, making it perfect for experienced surfers seeking a challange
Level: Advanced
Distance: 40 min walking / 15 min by boat
As shown on the map, we have access to numerous more waves, each offering unique characteristics and optimal conditions. So it doesn’t matter if you’ve been surfing for one year or thirty, whether it’s a north or south wind, or whether the swell is 1 foot or 15 feet, you’re almost certain to find a suitable wave here.
